This chapter sets the context required to understand the experiences of migration, musical performance, and participation of Filipino musicians in Australia. This chapter provides the rationale of the research, with an emphasis on the case of Filipinos, to broadly generate and translate significant insights that benefit migrant musicians. Presenting this opens the discussion on access and representation of Filipino migrant musicians' voices in the Australian music industry and multicultural society. The methods used in the research – pakikipagkuwentuhan, pakikilahok and pakikibahagi – are also discussed in this introductory chapter. Presenting these methods is important as it contextualises the experiences of Filipino migrants not only in the diasporic context but also in their involvement in the research process.
