The experiences of students with disabilities attending universities in Australia have been the subject of increasing attention, particularly in relation to the barriers they encounter and the support systems available to them. These students, including those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disabilities (ID), encounter significant academic, social, and mental health challenges during their higher education journey. Despite the growing number of students with disabilities accessing tertiary education, research indicates that many of them underutilise support services or experience dissatisfaction with available accommodations. This body of research underscores the need for improved transition support, flexible curricula, and inclusive practices that can enhance the university experience for students with disabilities. The findings also call for greater awareness of the unique needs of these students, both in terms of academic engagement and social integration, as well as the importance of reducing stigma and fostering a supportive and inclusive university environment.
