In an era where Big Data shapes every aspect of our lives, from social media usage to sensitive data management, we propose a co-design approach to design and implement a MOOC platform for social science: SoBigData Academy ( http://sobigdata.eu/academy ). Integrated with the SoBigData Research Infrastructure, the Academy employs a self-paced, asynchronous learning environment enriched with personalized and adaptive learning paths, gamification, and interactive micro-modules. The approach addresses challenges from both the point of view of students, such as high dropout rates and learner disengagement, and teachers, like technological barriers and pedagogical aspects applied to MOOCs. Additionally, the platform adheres to stringent ethical and legal standards, incorporating data protection principles in compliance with the GDPR.
