This paper is devoted to study high-frequency vibrations of induction machines at twice the carrier frequency under variable frequency drive (VFD) conditions. An analytical approach is adopted to investigate the harmonic characteristics of the VFD and the radial electromagnetic force characteristics of the induction machine near the carrier frequency and twice the carrier frequency. An electromagnetic-structural coupled model is established, and the machine's modal characteristics and vibration response spectrum are analyzed using the finite element analysis (FEA). The results are then compared with the analytical solution of the forced oscillation equation. The results indicate that significant electromagnetic vibrations occur near twice the carrier frequency under VFD conditions.
