Western China constitutes a major economic and geographic division of China, covering approximately 72% of the national land area. It encompasses Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province, Shaanxi Province, Yunnan Province, Guizhou Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Xizang Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The region is home to roughly 27% of China’s total population and contributes around 21% of the national GDP.
