The Industrial Heritage of Ironbridge Gorge
摘要
This chapter explores the origin, multidimensional values, and conservation-utilization model of the Ironbridge Gorge industrial heritage in the United Kingdom. It traces its origin to Abraham Darby I’s 1709 coke iron-smelting breakthrough and Abraham Darby III’s construction of the world’s first large cast-iron bridge (1779–1781). Six core values are analyzed: historical, cultural, social, scientific-technological, economic, and aesthetic. The successful museum cluster model is detailed, including unified management by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, multichannel promotion, public participation, and its transformation into a premier industrial tourism destination. The chapter concludes that Ironbridge Gorge sets a global benchmark for balancing heritage conservation with regional economic development.
