Algorithms of Accountability: AI for Emissions Tracking in a Carbon-Constrained World
摘要
Accurately and reliably quantifying carbon emissions is still one of the biggest challenges in the fight to slow down climate change. The world continues to function under a massive carbon blindspot despite decades of international agreements, commitments, and protocols. Global emissions are the result of a complex network of interconnected, frequently opaque, and rapidly evolving activities, ranging from extensive power grids and industrial complexes to scattered agricultural areas, transportation networks, and supply chains. It has been difficult to comprehend this carbon footprint in real time, let alone at the level of detail necessary for successful intervention. AI is filling this gap by providing previously unheard-of capabilities to monitor, decipher, and influence the unseen gases influencing the future of our planet.
