Consequences of Recruitment and Selection
摘要
The concluding chapter summarizes the main findings of the book. It examines the consequences of constituency politicians being the main agents of representation for the health of Pakistan’s political system. The autonomy exercised by constituency politicians has led to incoherent party organizations and party leaders who are unable to elicit credible commitment from their legislators. This chapter also sheds light on how recent elections have resulted in a candidate-centered political system that is prone to regime instability. It questions whether Pakistan can break out of its hybrid political regime and provides policy prescriptions that stem from the discussion of recruitment and selection.
