Principle 5: Be Generous with Others, Be Kind
摘要
The importance of the gentle academic being able to give and receive kindness and generosity, valuing a caring and supportive mindset, is presented as mutually beneficial for both the instigator and receiver. In this chapter, the authors explore the definition and benefits of generosity and kindness, suggesting that academics and research institutions have an important opportunity to promote and continue implementing kindness towards their colleagues in the post-pandemic era. We propose how academic institutions could embrace kindness as a key performance indicator and conclude our discussion with tangible suggestions of how academics, leaders and tertiary settings can implement these prosocial behaviours for the greater good. Identifying kindness qualities and reciprocating acts of kindness and generosity with colleagues and research teams contributes to an inspiring reimagining of how academia progresses and allows more gentle academics to emerge.
