Following the Wave: Korean Imaginations Among the Bangladeshi Youth
摘要
The ‘Korean Wave’ (regional and global popularity of South Korean popular culture, also known as Hallyu) is a multifaceted phenomenon that did not reach Bangladesh until 2009. Korean popular culture is presented in a way that seems like a complete entertainment package. Hallyu has taken the young generation of Bangladesh away from previously popular cultures and created a new source of entertainment. Korea has made almost all its cultural products a form of commodity, which makes this area of research vast and multifaceted. In this chapter, I have tried to attempt a comparative analysis of the consumers of the Korean Wave on the subtopics of: K-drama, and K-pop focusing on the imagined world that is created by the rapid consumption of these Korean popular culture by the youths of Bangladesh.
