Mahatma Gandhi on Human Nature: Implications for Human Development
摘要
The chapter explores the psychological and philosophical implications of Mahatma Gandhi’s views on human nature and their significance for human development. Gandhi argues that while humans are instinctively driven by sensory gratifications, they also harbor an intrinsic and altruistic divine element that seeks self-realization and interconnectedness with all. Gandhi emphasizes that achieving truth—a direct connection with the divine—requires realizing one’s spiritual dimensions, which involves transcending ego-centric behaviors through actions rooted in nonviolence and altruism. The notion of the “Gandhian dialectic” presents a model of human behavior that reconciles the conflicting tendencies of the animal and human aspects of humanity, emphasizing the importance of free will and conscious decisions in the journey toward self-realization, with truth at its core.
