Embracing Indigeneity in Theory, Research and Practice: Real-World Applications of Human Development
摘要
This chapter explores the principles of applications in human development through a cohesive blend of theory, research and practice, with a special emphasis on the Indian context. It emphasizes the importance of culturally and contextually appropriate, evidence-based interventions aimed at enhancing the well-being of families from varied backgrounds. Central to these applications are the principles of building strengths, fostering resilience and implementing preventive strategies that reflect individuals’ real-life experiences. The chapter presents Unnayan—the fieldwork initiative of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India—as an illustrative model based on the theory-research-practice feedback loop, highlighting the dynamic interplay between self, others, and self-awareness. Overall, the chapter stresses the importance of culturally grounded and globally relevant frameworks that are essential for promoting sustainable growth and shaping impactful policies. This approach is increasingly vital in our interconnected yet divided world, where cultivating empathy and bridging societal gaps are key to advancing human development.
