As the importance of the transition to a green economy grows, it is important for countries to identify directions that they can take in order to grow their economy while reducing negative environmental impact. A successful transition to a green economy can help a country grow its green production basket in a way that strengthens its competitive edge. Recent research suggests that countries are more likely to produce new products when those products have similar technology, knowhow, and infrastructure to those they already produce and export competitively. This paper uses this concept to provide a preliminary analysis of the selected green products that the United States produces and exports competitively, to identify the directions the country can follow to effectively foster green product development to transition to a green economy.
