The critical contribution of this book is to challenge the conservation of brochs, which are currently led by archaeology, with typological studies on brochs’ architectural features, which would improve their conservation with stronger interpretations at sites. The conservation of uncertain monuments, especially for ruins, should consider the need for interpretation. Interpretive intervention onsite, which is creative work, requires architectural perspectives.
