Comparative Study of Linear and Nonlinear Cavity Patterns in 3D Base Frames for Improved Vibration Isolation

This study investigates the vibration isolation performance of Al 6063 base frames with various cavity shapes and arrangements. Experimental and numerical analyses evaluated the dynamic response of square, circular, horizontal rectangular, and vertical rectangular cavity designs. Introducing cavities significantly reduced amplitudes, with the best results achieved by the horizontal rectangular cavity base frame (HRCBF) showing 17.09 g (linear) and 15.44 g (nonlinear). The influence of cavity placement on one or both sides was also explored, revealing an up to 12.77% improvement in attenuation for symmetrical designs. Nonlinear cavity arrangements consistently outperformed linear ones across all shapes, reducing amplitudes by up to 11.76%. These findings demonstrate the critical role of cavity geometry, placement, and arrangement in optimizing vibration isolation. This research contributes to advanced packaging solutions for fragile materials, providing robust design insights for real-world applications.
