Degenerative changes of the intervertebral disc are associated with damage of nearby structures, such as ligaments, facet joints, and paraspinal muscles. This leads to functional changes and increases susceptibility to injuries. The causes for pain in the disc degenerative process are complex, and in many cases, structural and mechanical deformations are combined. The artificial ligament is composed of the sagittal ligament and horizontal ligament; it can be helpful in the treatment of painful spinal disease (instability, foraminal stenosis, and discogenic back pain) caused by degenerative disc disease.
