摘要

Synthetic biology (SynBio) lies at the convergence of science and engineering, redefining how humans design and interact with biological systems. This chapter explores the transformative potential of SynBio, highlighting its groundbreaking applications across healthcare, agriculture, industry, and environmental sustainability. From advancing precision medicine and accelerating drug development to engineering climate-resilient crops and deploying biosensors for environmental monitoring, SynBio is addressing some of the world’s most urgent challenges. The integration of artificial intelligence is further propelling innovation, facilitating breakthroughs in regenerative medicine, organ-on-chip technologies, and sustainable biomanufacturing. Nonetheless, the dual-use nature of the field presents ethical, safety, and regulatory concerns, underscoring the need for proactive and adaptive governance. As SynBio continues to evolve, its capacity to tackle global issues—such as climate change, food insecurity, and health disparities—solidifies its role as a pivotal force in shaping a sustainable and equitable future.
