Synthetic biology’s integration with microbiome research represents a groundbreaking shift in medical science, enabling precise manipulation of microbial ecosystems for innovative healthcare solutions. This chapter explores the transformative potential of engineered microbial systems, showcasing advancements in genetic tools such as clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-CRISPR-associated protein systems and synthetic circuits. These innovations have paved the way for applications such as tailored probiotics, biosensors for real-time diagnostics, and therapeutic strategies targeting conditions from metabolic disorders to immune dysregulation.
