Village Within the City: Glebe Hill and the Revival of Everyday Urbanism in Hobart
摘要
Glebe Hill Village is a conscious attempt to rethink suburban life in Hobart, moving away from the sprawling, automobile-dependent development of the past and toward a more compact, human-scaled, and interconnected urban future (Hamnett and Freestone 2000). The construction, which is located in the rapidly expanding suburb of Howrah on the city's eastern edge, is a prime example of a new trend in urban infill thinking. Instead of viewing suburban expansion as a dispersion of houses into low-density sprawl, Glebe Hill exemplifies the characteristics of a modern urban village (Greater Hobart Committee (2022). 30 Year Greater Hobart Plan - Let's Talk, Glenorchy, Available from: https://letstalk.gcc.tas.gov.au/77669/widgets/372697/documents/232103 ): it is multipurpose, walkable, and built to accommodate daily routines.
