Designing the Tropical Capital Through Climate-Conscious Urbanism: Urban Renewal and the Darwin City Deal
摘要
A vision that is both civically determined and climate mindful is reshaping Darwin's urban future. The Darwin City Deal represents a strategic commitment to reposition the city as a resilient, inclusive, and thriving tropical capital. It was initiated as a cooperative agreement between the federal, territorial, and local governments (Oakley, Urban Policy and Research 29:221–238, 2011). This urban revitalization project is based on the facts of Darwin's distinct geographic location, changing economic foundation, and multi-layered cultural identity rather than starting from scratch. Along with financial investment, the City Deal also includes a political and geographical strategy (City of Darwin, n.d.) that views urban renewal as a means of achieving long-term change.
