In this chapter, we introduce the concept of two-dimensional discrete maps. We begin the discussion with linear maps, determining their fixed points and the eigenvalues that characterize their stability. We then introduce nonlinear discrete maps and present a method to determine the linear stability of fixed points through the linearized equations. Finally, we discuss some well-known examples of discrete maps from the literature.
