A Techno-Economic Investigation of Grid-Tied Biomass-Based Nano-Grid for Rural Community

Majority of remotely located rural region in Indian subcontinent have access to electricity from the conventional grid network. However, prolonged grid outage, electricity interruption due to malfunctioning of grid has been commonly seen in these areas affecting the daily life and electricity dependent practices for agriculture. These hindrances can be mitigated by integration of renewable resources with the conventional grid to foster the consistency of electricity. In this paper, a grid tied biomass-based Nano-grid has been designed on HOMER Pro software for remotely located community Bihar, India. Locally available biomass resources are used as fuel for the biogas genset. Simulation results shows that the proposed Nano-grid has lesser cost of energy ($0.0799) than energy purchase rate from the grid. This Nano-grid also plays a pivotal role in lesser emission of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. It is also observed from the outcome of simulation, the designed Nano-grid has better significance of techno-economic-enviro (TEE) aspects.
