Small-Scale Inland Fisheries in Nutritional Security of India
摘要
Nutritional security characterizes appropriate health and wellbeing of individuals through intake of balanced and adequate nutrition from foods consumed. SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production point toward achieving nutritional security in the world. In inland open water fisheries, the diversity of fish is high, many of whose proximal composition have been analyzed to reveal that they are micro-nutrient dense fish (NutriFishIN database developed by ICAR—CIFRI with nutritional information of food fishes of India). Hidden harvest is data on small-scale fisheries about fish catch, fishers’ livelihood, dietary importance of fishes, and other facets that are not included in available statistics hindering national, regional, and global policy making. If we want to achieve SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by 2030, we have to ensure policy level up-gradations in inclusion of fish in dietary requirements in the nutritional programs.
