Ambitious for the Higher Gifts
摘要
This chapter, Ambitious for the Higher Gifts, draws on the post-resurrection story of Jesus preparing breakfast for the tired disciples as a powerful metaphor for the experience of leading for mission. The chapter explores the idea of “gifts plus,” emphasising that authentic leadership flows from a deep integration of faith, skills, and personal qualities in service of the Gospel vision. It reinforces the concept of leadership integrity, where the leader’s personal faith commitment is seamlessly integrated with their professional role and leadership practices. The chapter also reflects on the idea of “breakfast” as a symbol of the nourishment, renewal, and accompaniment that leaders are called to provide for their communities. It concludes by affirming that the goal of leadership is not merely professional excellence but a deeper conformity to Christ and becoming “ambitious for the higher gifts” of faith, hope, and love in the service of God’s mission.
