Spironolactone is essentially a potassium-sparing diuretic, which possesses antiandrogenic properties, because of which it has been used in a number of androgen—dependent dermatoses. Its use in hormonal acne, female pattern hair loss and hirsutism has been highlighted in many reports. Besides, it has a favourable adverse effect profile, making it a valuable drug in the dermatologic therapeutic armamentarium.
