Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressive agent exhibiting a wide range of applications in dermatology. Currently, it is approved by the FDA for treating severe psoriasis. Off-label indications include atopic dermatitis, lichen planus, alopecia areata and lichen planopilaris, to name a few. Cyclosporine is particularly helpful as a crisis buster for most dermatoses. However, owing to its side effect profile, long-term therapy with cyclosporine should be avoided.
