Cephalosporins, like penicillins, are ß-lactam antibiotics, and have been used for a variety of cutaneous and venereal infections. Their mechanism of action is similar to that of penicillins and are classified into five groups: first-generation cephalosporins, second-generation cephalosporins, third-generation cephalosporins, fourth-generation cephalosporins and cephamycins. This chapter deals with all the salient aspects of this group of drugs essential for dermatologic clinical practice.
