Weldability Study of EN8 Medium Carbon Steel by Manual Metal Arc Welding
摘要
EN8 medium carbon steel has wide engineering applications. The chemical composition includes 0.4–0.5% carbon, 0.6–1% manganese and silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur in minute amount. It has good strength, hardness, toughness, and weldability. Manual metal arc welding finds versatile application in joining metals and alloys. In this experimental investigation, weldability study of EN8 medium carbon steel by applying manual metal arc welding was performed. Response surface methodology was the design of experiment. Weld parameters were weld torch angle and root gap. Bead geometry parameters (depth of penetration, bead width, and height of reinforcement) were evaluated for different combinations of the mentioned factors. Pre-weld and post-weld hardness of the weld bead were noted.
