Climate Change, Disaster, and Mental Health in Pakistan
摘要
Climate change and disasters pose significant threats to mental health in Pakistan, exacerbating vulnerabilities and stressors. This paper highlights the importance of integrating mental health into disaster risk reduction and management strategies. It emphasizes the need for culturally adapted psychological interventions, community-based approaches, and capacity-building initiatives. A holistic framework is proposed, incorporating policy and government-level interventions, culturally adapted therapies, capacity building, community mobilization, and public engagement. This chapter recommends mainstreaming mental health in national disaster and climate frameworks, establishing climate and disaster mental health task forces, and investing in resilient infrastructure. Culturally adapted cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and narrative exposure therapy are suggested as effective interventions. Capacity building initiatives, such as training programs and simulation-based exercises, can enhance disaster response. Community mobilization and public engagement strategies, including religious and cultural framing, community support networks, and media campaigns, can foster resilience and reduce stigma. This framework offers a comprehensive approach to addressing the mental health impacts of climate change and disasters in Pakistan.
