Comparative Analysis of Printing Process Parameters of Pure PLA and PLA: Walnut Shell Powder Biocomposite on Dimensional Accuracy and Surface Finish Using Taguchi Analysis

Fused deposition modelling (FDM), a rapid prototyping technique used mostly in 3D printing, reduces material waste by layering materials one at a time. For the manufacturing process of precision parts, a high-quality surface finish and dimensional accuracy are necessary. The component’s superior surface polish minimizes the requirement for additional post-processing. The surface finish produced by the FDM process depends on a number of variables. Numerous studies are required to improve the performance of produced parts through surface treatment and process optimization. In the current work, printing parameters such as bed temperature, layer thickness, and nozzle temperature are used to analyze the dimensional accuracy and degree of surface roughness of pure PLA and walnut powder-blended PLA biocomposites. For experiment design, the Taguchi L8 orthogonal array is utilized. Commercial Creality ender V2 printer is used to prepare eight samples of pure PLA and walnut powder-blended PLA biocomposites. The ANOVA approach was used for investigation and analysis.
