Emission Analysis of a Multi-point Fuel Injection Spark Ignition Engine Enriched with Dimethyl Ether and LPG

摘要

India is advancing the production of Dimethyl Ether (DME) as an alternative fuel for various applications. Due to its low-temperature reaction characteristics and high cetane number, DME is particularly suitable for direct use in compression ignition (CI) engines. Conversely, DME can significantly reduce emissions as an additive in spark-ignited (SI) engines. This study examines the emission reduction potential of partially replacing LPG with DME in multi-point fuel injection (MPFI) SI engines, using DME concentrations ranging from 0% to 15% in 5% increments. The findings show that a DME15 + LPG85 blend results in a 26.36% reduction in CO emissions, a 27.87% reduction in HC emissions, and a 15.74% reduction in CO2 emissions. However, this blend also leads to an 11% increase in NOx emissions compared to baseline gasoline operation. Addressing the higher NOx emissions remains a focus for future research.
