Effect of Different Quaternary Blends of Diesel-Ethanol-Methanol-Pentanol on Emission Characteristics of a Single-Cylinder Diesel Engine

摘要

The effect of different quaternary blends of diesel-ethanol-methanol-pentanol on a single-cylinder diesel engine’s emission parameters has been investigated. This research used the commercially available Diesel-RK software to predict exhaust emission characteristics. Simultaneously, experiments were conducted using D100 (100% pure diesel) fuel at a steady speed of 1500 rpm, under identical circumstances as the simulation. The anticipated findings were corroborated by comparing them with experimental outcomes from studies using neat diesel, showing a satisfactory agreement between the two. The numerical results show that the exhaust NOx emissions increased by 3.31–12.79% due to the higher oxygenated nature of the quaternary blends, whereas the light absorption coefficient and specific particulate matter decreased by 13.16–25.8% and 30.81–45.31%, respectively. CO2 emissions increase with engine load for all quaternary blends, although it decreases marginally for all quaternary blends. The authors propose that the quaternary blends examined in this research have more promise for use as fuel in forthcoming diesel engines.
