Wild Edibles and Their Role in Localizing UN SDGs
摘要
Wild edibles have been an inherent part of human diet, medicine, and culture since time immemorial. Wild edibles have been harvested from forests, neighborhood gardens, backyards, avenues, and now in changing times, also from urban green spaces. This book is an effort to present a collection of scientific research as well as practitioner perspectives from diverse geographies, contexts, and cultures. This book showcases the relevance of wild edibles in general and their potential to help localize UN Sustainable Development Goals in particular. The parts in this book document wild edibles and UN SDGs, especially addressing hunger issues, place-based attachment, nutritional security, health, gender and social equity, access, and benefit sharing. This book also tries to capture and understand the relevance of wild edibles in the changing world. Acknowledging the historical relevance, followed by present and future needs, this chapter endorses the relevance of wild edibles in supporting multiple SDGs and also diverse co-benefits. We are hopeful that readers will benefit from the diversity of case studies and contexts shared by experts and practitioners in different chapters.
