This chapter explores Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) as a strategic imperative within the resources sector in Australia. The chapter places particular emphasis on understanding how different strategic initiatives align with two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Gender Equality (Goal 5) and Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10). The chapter presents the findings from a large-scale study of D&I relating to gender that was conducted at organisations in the Australian resources sector. By considering D&I as integral to corporate strategy, the chapter shows that efforts to tackle gender disparities in traditionally male-dominated industries not only benefit organisations but also contribute to improving societal equity more broadly. Through in-depth interviews and case studies, this chapter derives actionable insights for fostering an inclusive culture and advancing gender equality within the resources sector, particularly in regional workplaces. Importantly, this chapter demonstrates the benefits of embedding gender equality into organisational strategies, particularly how corporate resilience can be strengthened while driving transformative societal change. The chapter also offers a roadmap for aligning corporate practices with the SDGs and creating meaningful progress towards gender parity.

摘要
