Zimbabwe, like many other countries, is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to children and youth. Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Zimbabwe face numerous challenges, including poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare, and social exclusion. This chapter examines the prospects and challenges of achieving SDGs for OVC in Zimbabwe, with a focus on social welfare policies and programs. Using a qualitative desktop methodology and critical discourse analysis, this study analyses existing literature and policies related to OVC in Zimbabwe. The study reveals that while Zimbabwe has made significant progress in developing policies and programs aimed at supporting OVC, several challenges persist, including inadequate funding, lack of coordination among stakeholders, and cultural barriers. The critical discourse analysis highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of the complex issues affecting OVC in Zimbabwe. The primary finding of this study is that achieving the SDGs for OVC in Zimbabwe necessitates a multifaceted approach that addresses the root causes of vulnerability and promotes sustainable development. The study recommends that policymakers and practitioners prioritise community-based initiatives, increase funding for social welfare programs, and foster collaboration among stakeholders to support OVC in Zimbabwe.
