Artificial Intelligence in the Media Ecosystem—Fears and Hopes
摘要
The increasing spread of artificial intelligence poses new challenges for journalism. Technology is creating the preconditions for a complete overhaul of the work of journalists and their role. On the one hand, the risk of spreading fake news and misinformation that is harder to identify is increasing because of the possibilities of generating content, photos, audio, and video. On the other hand, artificial intelligence can be a reliable tool to facilitate the daily work of the journalist, both in purely technical terms and in terms of data collection and verification. The audience’s reaction to AI-generated content, even when it is not fake news, should not be ignored. This study analyzes trends over the last five years in the use of AI in the media and in consumer reactions. Mixed research methods were used—statistical data analysis, quantitative and qualitative research. The aim is to highlight the rates and attitudes toward the adoption of the new technology and the main challenges in the future, as well as to contribute to the understanding of the increasingly important role of artificial intelligence in journalism, taking into account not only its potential to optimize journalistic practices, but also the possible problems and dangers associated with the spread of fake and manipulative news and the consequent reduction of trust on the part of the audience. The research will contribute to broadening the debate on the ethical use of AI in the contemporary media ecosystem and the need for transparency in content generation.
