Decision Support System for Selecting Majors in IT Training Programs
摘要
Selecting the right training program is a crucial decision for students, which will impact directly their academic success and future career paths. The difficulty in making this choice is influenced by the multitude of options and varying requirements of each field, which can lead to mismatches between students’ interests, strengths, abilities, and their chosen curriculum program. Traditional advising methods from academic advisors are often time-consuming and may lack the personalized guidance essential for making informed decisions. Hence, using technology to create an effective decision support system (DSS) can greatly assist students in making well-informed choices. In this paper, we propose a method for DSS designed to help students automatically select an information technology (IT) program by employing the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). This system aims to thoroughly analyze student profiles, criteria, abilities, registered information, and align them with the requirements of various IT curriculum programs, providing well-balanced recommendations that consider both user strengths and the program suitability. Comparing to existing applications, our method is more effective in guiding students toward better suitable curriculum choices.
