India is a diverse land in terms of its geographical dimensions, culture and people’s practices, that is, to say the least. This diversity, however, does not speak about the tremendous inequality which characterises this land. This chapter takes a look at modern childhood inequality, especially in terms of the uneven relationships of children with the educational system in post-independence India, with examples from West Bengal.
