The study aims to determine the hydroelastic responses of a Very Large Floating Structure (VLFS) integrated with a floating box-type porous breakwater under the influence of irregular waves. The study analyses the hydrodynamic and hydroelastic characteristics of the VLFS-breakwater integration. Bretschneider spectra are used for the irregular wave analysis in deeper waters. The study evaluates the hydroelastic behaviour in terms of surface displacement of the VLFS and the hydrodynamic parameters concerning the change in physical and structural parameters of the breakwater. The effects of the relative height of the breakwater integrated with the VLFS and the angle of incidence on the scattering of irregular waves are studied in detail. Numerical simulations show that the responses obtained for the irregular wave–structure interaction are more useful in providing the preliminary inputs for the structural design criteria than those obtained considering regular waves.

摘要
