Research on the Risk Management of Equipment Transportation in Nuclear Power Plant Project

Equipment transportation in the field of logistics management of nuclear power plant project has always been a critical and challenge issue due to its difficulty in organizing, high risk of safety responsibility, strict quality requirements, and technical demand specifications. As the last step of whole nuclear power plant equipment procurement process, the importance of transportation management in nuclear power plant project is undisputed. This article combines the unique features of equipment for nuclear power plant with the concept of risk management to the existing transportation management model, taking good advantage of risk management theories and tools to identify, analyze and evaluate transportation risks, and provides proper solutions to deal with them. At the same time, by taking ‘Unit No. 5 and 6 Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant, Hua-long Pressurized Reactor’ nuclear power plant project as an example, the application of risk control in nuclear power plant projects is explained, various of risks like contract clause unclear, improper packaging issues, poor transportation supplier choosing, insufficient transportation preparation or management are discussed in this article. By employing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and other theories and tools, Depending on the difference of delivery, equipment structure and type, quantity and distance of transportation in nuclear power plant project, certain treatment methods for optimizing and improving equipment transportation process in nuclear power plant project are shown in this article, which will be beneficial to the transportation management in the future nuclear power plant project.
