Applications of Computer Simulation in Construction Management
摘要
The construction industry is prone to schedule overruns and cost overruns. Considering the limitations of existing planning methods that cannot capture the uncertainties to overcome these long-overdue problems, this literature review explores and examines how computer simulation can be used in construction management to improve decision-making and enhance planning. The study investigates various applications and benefits of simulation, highlighting its role in addressing complex construction issues. Content analysis is performed on the seventeen identified research papers. The study highlights various simulation methods, such as discrete event simulation (DES), agent-based modeling (ABM), and system dynamics (SD), and defines their effectiveness with multiple examples. Furthermore, this study is helpful to researchers as it provides the current applications of simulation in construction for further research. Further the study is also beneficial for practitioners willing to adopt computer simulation with the study covering examples in buildings and infrastructure. The study extends its inquiry by proposing the creation of ready-to-use models to simulate construction scenarios, facilitating informed decision-making and enhancing project outcomes.
