The rapid growth of the construction industry has significantly increased the generation of construction and demolition waste (CDW), presenting an urgent environmental challenge. Concrete blocks have long been a popular choice due to their strength; however, issues like cracking raise serious concerns about their structural integrity and long-term performance. This study aims to provide practical insights and solutions for construction professionals, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to promote more resilient and sustainable construction practices. A comprehensive survey conducted in Pune, Akola, and Nashik identified three major causes of cracking in autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) block walls: inherent cracking within AAC walls, degradation of structural integrity over time, and inadequate thermal insulation. While red brick remains a favored material due to its durability, load-bearing capacity, fire resistance, and contribution to energy efficiency, new alternatives are emerging to meet modern sustainability and performance standards. Among these, Porotherm bricks or blocks stand out as a highly innovative solution. These clay-based bricks are approximately 60% lighter than traditional materials, offering substantial cost savings by reducing the structural load. Engineered to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability, Porotherm bricks also facilitate easier installation and improved overall building performance, positioning them as a promising alternative for the future of eco-friendly construction.

摘要
