Poland and Japan
摘要
The chapter analyses the multifaceted political, economic, cultural, and security relations between Japan and Poland over the past century-and-a-half. It highlights that diplomatic-security and cultural ties between the two countries have been surprisingly strong for such geographically distant states, while the economic relations have developed only recently after Poland’s accession to the European Union in 2004. It discusses the larger Japanese cultural influence on Poland in areas of Japanese soft power such as manga, anime, and other forms of popular culture. In conclusion, the author argues that the ongoing shifts in international order such as China-US hegemonic rivalry and Russian aggression against Ukraine, Japan-Poland ties in all areas, especially in diplomatic and security realms as both states are part of the US-led groupings, are going to grow stronger.
