Real-Time Wrong-Way Car and License Plate Detection with Text Extraction and API-Based Email Alerts Using YOLOv8 and OpenCV: A Machine Learning Approach

In the age of modern civilization, people use increasingly sophisticated technology to enhance their quality of life. As human civilization advances, we continuously refine our ways of living to cater to evolving demands. Today, we possess the ability to understand and utilize cutting-edge technologies like machine learning and computer vision. These powerful technologies play a crucial role in shaping our society. However, their adoption is not without challenges. Issues such as a lack of awareness, insufficient education, and a mindset prone to violating laws often hinder their effective use. Recognizing these challenges, we have prioritized human safety and awareness, particularly in the domains of road safety and the transportation sector. Our primary objective is to save lives by leveraging advanced technologies. Each year, reckless driving, excessive speeding, traffic violations, and unsafe road crossings lead to the loss of thousands of lives globally. Driving on the wrong side is a major cause of expressway accidents. To address this, we have developed an intelligent system capable of detecting, tracking, and counting vehicles moving in the wrong direction. Using YOLOv8, OpenCV, EasyOCR, Laravel API, and SMTP, our fully automated real-time application extracts vehicle details, sends alerts, and imposes penalties, ensuring greater road safety.
