Viral keratitis is a significant cause of corneal blindness worldwide, with herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) being the most common etiologic agents. These infections can cause recurrent inflammation, leading to corneal scarring, neovascularization, and endothelial dysfunction. In cases with significant impairment of visual acuity with limited options available in terms of medical management, corneal transplantation is considered the treatment of choice. This chapter provides an overview of types of transplants, indications, surgical techniques, postoperative care, and outcomes associated with corneal transplantation in cases of viral keratitis.
