This chapter carefully examines the basic syntactic and semantic properties of various equation constructions in Mandarin in a relatively theory-neutral way, including the types of equation modes involved (see the typology in Haspelmath et al. 2017 and Rett 2020), and how the standard can be introduced. Then, I discuss what kinds of questions raised by the Mandarin data regarding our understanding of equation constructions in human language, which can be sorted into two themes addressed in Chaps. 3–4 and 5–6, respectively.

摘要

This chapter carefully examines the basic syntactic and semantic properties of various equation constructions in Mandarin in a relatively theory-neutral way, including the types of equation modes involved (see the typology in Haspelmath et al. 2017 and Rett 2020), and how the standard can be introduced. Then, I discuss what kinds of questions raised by the Mandarin data regarding our understanding of equation constructions in human language, which can be sorted into two themes addressed in Chaps. 3–4 and 5–6, respectively.
