Childhood Obesity: Impacts on Psychosocial Well-Being and Health Outcomes
摘要
Childhood obesity has emerged as one of the most critical public health challenges globally, impacting physical, psychological, and social well-being. This chapter examines the multifaceted consequences of childhood obesity, highlighting its association with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and hepatic disorders. It also explores the psychological toll of obesity, including diminished self-esteem, body dissatisfaction, depression, and anxiety. Contributing factors such as genetic predisposition, environmental influences, sedentary lifestyles, and disordered eating behaviors are discussed. Furthermore, the chapter emphasizes the role of family dynamics, societal stigma, and peer interactions in shaping the psychosocial outcomes of affected children. Evidence-based interventions, including lifestyle modifications, dietary management, physical activity, and psychological support, are proposed to combat this epidemic and improve health outcomes. Understanding and addressing childhood obesity through a holistic, multidisciplinary approach is essential to mitigate its lifelong impacts.
