Nourishment is important in every part of life, but it is most important during pregnancy, because it includes the mother’s and the baby’s body growth. Pregnancy is a time when the mother focuses on food to nourish both her own body and that of the fetus. The fetus’s nutrition is very important, as any deficiency of nutrients may lead to malformations and poor health. Intake of calcium may reduce the risk of bone density loss in mothers. Some drugs, such as vitamin A, are avoided during pregnancy due to teratogenicity. Folic acid is most commonly used during pregnancy to prevent the development of neural tube abnormalities. Vitamin K is used in pregnancy-related osteoporosis and is safe to use. Calcium intake during pregnancy may reduce the risk of bone density loss in the mother. Iron supplementation is also important, which helps in pre-delivery, low body weight during birth, deficiency in baby, etc. In this review, we explain the intake of nutritional supplements during pregnancy and its effects on maternal health and fetal development.

摘要

Nutrition is the biological process that involves the intake of food and its subsequent absorption into the body. Nutritional supplements are the concentration of substances that have nutritional or physiological effects on a normal diet. When your food is deficient or insufficient, these supplements can be provided as extra nutrients.
