Learning to Write, Writing to Learn. What’s the difference? Does it even matter? This chapter will argue that an understanding of these two stances is critical in supporting young learners’ writing development through their primary school years as it acknowledges young learners’ growth and how it impacts their learning. It will explore practical writing approaches and strategies relevant to these stances and discuss how young learners can be better supported in writing as they transit through the years. It will conclude with a discussion on challenges and implications. This chapter offers perspectives on widening the lens to view writing as a cohesive curriculum across the primary school rather than a stand-alone program within a class or grade level.
