Development Policies, Plans, and Programs in South Asia
摘要
This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their implementation across South Asia, emphasizing the alignment of national development policies with the 2030 Agenda. It examines the diverse strategies adopted by countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and the Maldives, highlighting the prospects and challenges in achieving the SDGs. Particular attention is given to Bangladesh’s integration of the SDGs within its Seventh and Eighth Five-Year Plans, assessing the effectiveness of these strategies in promoting sustainable development. The chapter also explores regional initiatives like the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) program, which aims to enhance cross-border connectivity and economic collaboration. Furthermore, it identifies regional obstacles such as economic disparities, infrastructural deficits, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis underscores the necessity of enhanced regional cooperation and strategic policy interventions to overcome these challenges and achieve the SDGs by 2030.
